This week we had a lecture in class about fear in the media. And let me tell you something...

I hate scary movies.

There is nothing fun about being on the edge of your seat

Why would i want to be paranoid about taking baths or babysitting?

There is nothing uplifting about creepy music

Even if you do have a cute boy to hold onto, nothing provides enough comfort to keep you from being terrified out of your mind

Why would I want nightmares gracing my dreams on a nightly basis for a month?

Why would i want to jump 5 feet in the air every time i hear a loud noise or a phone ringing?

In what world would I want goosebumps on my arm for 2 hours straight?

Why would i want to watch a movie where my hands have to be in a close enough proximity to cover my eyes in a split second?

Who wants to watch someone hallucinate or get chased or shot or be followed on a dark trail?


Have i made myself clear?

haha.


Maybe i just don't like scary movies because I'm not brave enough to handle them...

but either way, i think i will stick with movie genres that don't leave me feeling disturbed for the next decade.

I am currently watching Indiana Jones on a High Definition/3D television. And do you know what? I hate it. Okay maybe hate is a strong word, but it’s totally trippy! Earlier today I watched “Swiss Family Robinson”…ya know that movie made back in the 60’s (aka a looooooong time ago)? Well I watched it today and it looked as though it was made in the past couple years. It was so bizarre. You’re probably wondering why I think this is a bad thing, huh? The picture on HD/3D television looks so real it’s creepy. Its like, “Hi Harrison Ford, welcome to my living room”. As attractive as that man is, I think I prefer him and his action buddies to stay in the television where they belong!

I have never been a gung-ho-lovey-dovey-give-me –flowers-and-teddy-bears Valentine’s Day fan. BUT for the first time in my life I have been counting down to Valentine’s Day since practically November. Every day for the past couple months I’ve opened my planner and flipped to see how many pages left until February 14^th—10 pages…5….3…1…ah! Finally, February 14^th came. I bet you are wondering why I have been anxiously awaiting the so-called holiday that I usually want nothing to do with, huh? Well, let me tell you: It’s because I had tickets to the Lady Antebellum concert. Not just tickets…AMAZING tickets! I was 10 feet from the stage. Ah!!!! It was the best. Night. Ever.

Let’s rewind a little bit to the beginning of the evening. When my date and I were walking in I handed over my purse to security for inspection. To my dismay, the security guard grumpily exclaimed that my camera was not allowed in the arena (gosh, I knew I should have headed to that nice grandpa looking security guard—he would have let me in for sure)…gasp! How dare they? It was very unfortunate. So my date took my camera back to the vehicle and I sadly went in to the arena empty handed. But wait! This story does not have a sad ending. Thank goodness for phones! My handy dandy little palm pixi of a cell phone in my front right pocket yet again pulled me out of a tight spot . Thanks to my trusty cell phone (and my date's cell phone) I was able to document a few moments from the evening.

the ledge of my seat

This past week I went and saw the film “Man on a Ledge”. And to use my dad’s oh-so-ridiculous pun, it had me hanging on the ledge of my seat the whole time! My expectations were not super high because the movie didn’t get the greatest reviews but after seeing said movie, I think it is safe to come to the conclusion that the movie critics were wrong. In fact they are always wrong. Maybe I am just easy to please but I have like almost every movie that the critics destroy. Anyway, back to the point of this post…

The movie was awesome—slightly unbelievable but totally intense. I don’t think I took a normal breath once throughout the film and when the credits finally rolled I was on the verge of an anxiety attack. Mind you, the smallest of things can give me an anxiety attack but this movie was pretty dang suspenseful! The plot was unpredictable and the overall the cast was great.

Super Bowl

I LOVE the Super Bowl. Family, food, and football...it doesn't get much better than that.

Actually it does. I would argue that the very best part of the Super Bowl is watching the commercials. While i wasn't super impressed this year there were a few that had me laughing out loud. Here are couple of my favorites:

...at last i see the light

Well, it looks like Dr. Coyne beat me to my genius blog post idea this week…aka Tangled! I watched that movie last weekend and I think it is safe to say I like it more every time I watch it. The movie is pure genius. I want magic hair and I want to see the floating lanterns. And has anyone else ever coveted the over-sized princess eyes present in every Disney movie? Well I have…until I picture what eyes the size of eggs would look like in real life…yikes! Perhaps is it better they remain cartoon.

If you haven’t seen the movie I would check to make sure you aren’t living under a rock. HA! Joke. What I mean is, if you haven’t seen the movie, watch it. You will LOVE it.
